Worship

Our small town church gives one the feeling of warmth and friendship as one enters the building.  We are a prayerful church and pray faithfully for each other with guidance from our prayer ministry leader.

Children feel a part of the congregation through weekly children's sermons and Junior Church.  During the school year, our Junior Church is held during the 11:00 service on the second through fifth Sundays of the month.  During the summer, Junior Church is held during the single worship service at 10:00.  The children sense this is their worship time and look forward to their part in setting up the atmosphere of the room.

Communion is held monthly on the first Sunday of the month.  Children are encouraged to stay in church that Sunday and participate in the breaking of bread with their families.  Pastor Ray gives a yearly class in preparation for younger members of our church (first graders and up) to learn the importance of this Sacrament in our church.

As a part of the Reformed family of the Christian church, the proclamation of the Word of God is central in our worship experience.  We expect to receive guidance, inspiration, comfort and even correction when the Bible is read and preached.

Sunday services reflect a blended style of worship using traditional hymns and contemporary praise songs.  Wayne H. Carr, our accomplished Choir Director and Accompanist, rehearses weekly with the Vocal Choir.  Consisting of about 20 dedicated adults and students, the choir gathers on Thursdays at 7:30 PM to pray, practice, praise and minister to one another as a small group.  They help lead Worship every Sunday, often accompanied by other instrumentalists.  Since 1995, under the direction of Peggy Watkins, our AvonBells have met weekly to practice interesting and inspiring handbell arrangements.  The handbell ensemble participates in Worship services on a monthly basis.  In addition, Peggy directs a beginner bell choir, “Joyful Rhythm”, which participates in the Christmas Joy concert as well as worship services periodically.  On occasion a brass ensemble of youth and experienced musicians from our congregation blesses us.  Vocal and instrumental soloists also share in our music ministry.  Dramas performed by our youth and adults are also presented from time to time.

Our prayerful, loving congregation welcomes you to join us on a Sunday morning for worship and Sunday School.

"Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" Psalm 8:1 (NIV)

Sunday Worship Services

We are currently on summer hours.  Worship is at 10 a.m. on Sundays.

8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.  Blended Services:  Our worship service includes: a blend of traditional hymns and praise songs; a time to share joys, concerns and prayers of the people; a children's sermon (after which children ages 0-5 may attend nursery), and an inspiring message from our Pastor.  Our vocal choir leads the praise songs and shares an anthem at both services.  Special music is frequently offered.

11:00 a.m.  After the children's sermon, 0-5 year olds may attend Nursery and children in grades K-4 may attend Junior Church.

At either service, children's bulletins and a children's sermon help families to worship together.  If children become restless, you can take them at any time to our staffed infant (0-18 months) or toddler (18 months - 3 years) nursery.

JUNIOR CHURCH

The focus of Junior Church is introducing kids to who God is, and worshipping God through a variety of activities: Bible study, fun activities, prayer, songs and games. Each Sunday of the month will focus on a different theme.

1st Sunday is Communion Sunday – No Junior Church

2nd Sunday – The focus is on our church, the things we do in worship, various church activities, and the people involved.

3rd Sunday – The focus is on prayer through scripture, games, and activities.

4th Sunday – The focus is on Bible study through reading scripture, puzzles and games.

When there is a 5th Sunday, the focus will be on great lessons learned from Jesus and the Bible.

Junior Church meets during the 11:00 service and is for children from kindergarten through fourth grade. If you have children in this age range, please encourage them to attend.
